In the inaugural episode of News 9’s weekly podcast, Flick Talk, writer and independent filmmaker Pradeep Menon talks about this week’s big theatrical releases over the Diwali weekend: Marvel’s Eternals, Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, and Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe.
Here is small excerpt from the podcast that perfectly encapsulates this week’s verdict: skip the big Diwali releases, and watch Denis Villeneuve’s Dune instead.
“It’s likely none of these films would do it for you, because none of them is an outrightly great film. So if you don’t want to tweak your expectations and fall below, I would recommend Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, which released last week, as a big screen experience. These are the sort of films directors would have to make now, if they want to make the theatrical experience worth it. I watched 7 movies in the theatres in the last week since they opened in Mumbai, and none of them comes close to Dune. It’s a slow-burner, but you just have to submit yourself into it. Cannot wait for part 2. And that’s about two years away. But it’s worth the wait.”
