Pot calls kettle black: China issues a sanctimonious lecture to India on global warming

With a day to go for the United Nations Climate Change conference, known as COP26, in Glasgow, China has used the occasion to launch a broadside at India, focusing on the latter’s reluctance to commit itself to a timeframe for transitioning to a net zero emissions economy.

The COP26 will discuss the progress achieved on reducing emission of greenhouse gases that have led to an alarming rise in world temperature levels, threatening the viability of Earth as a habitable planet.

A recent UN report indicated that instead of limiting the heating up of the global temperatures to the upper limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius, the actual rise in temperature could be 2.7 degrees Celsius, endangering life on Earth.

China’s criticism of India amounts to brazen hypocrisy, since it contributes 27 per cent of carbon emissions, against India’s seven per cent.
