Nawazuddin Siddiqui feels OTT has become a 'dhandha' for production houses

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has decided that he will not be doing OTT shows anymore. According to him, working on OTT is more of a “Dhandha” as it has become a dumping ground for redundant shows. In a recent interview with a leading daily, the actor revealed how OTT is not his thing anymore. He had been seen openly expressing his dislike for the OTT for quite a long time now.

When asked about what is the reason behind quitting OTT, the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ fame said, “The platform has become a dumping ground for redundant shows. We either have shows that don’t deserve to be seen in the first place. Or sequels to shows that have nothing more to say.”

Speaking on his first OTT project and how everything was so different back then, he said, “When I did Sacred Games for Netflix, there was an excitement and challenge around the digital medium. New talent was being given a chance. Now that freshness is gone.”

Sharing his thoughts on how diluted the OTT industry has become, he said, “It has become a Dhanda (business) for big production houses and actors who are now so-called stars on the OTT platform. Major film producers in Bollywood have cut lucrative deals with all the big players in the OTT field. Producers get whooping amounts to create unlimited content. Quantity has killed quality.”

Confirming how he will not be seen signing up for any OTT projects, the 47-year-old actor said, “When I can’t bear to watch them how can I bear to be in them?”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui was first seen in Netflix’s 2018 series ‘Sacred Games’, which was not only a break for the actor but the first Netflix original show of India. The second season was released in the year 2020.

Apart from this, the actor has also been a part of many movies which were released on the OTT platform, he has done some of the films like ‘Raat Akeli Hai’, ‘Ghoomketu’ and ‘Serious Men’.

Meanwhile, Siddiqui is also set to star in ‘Tiku and Sheru’ bagged by Kangana Ranaut production Manikarnika Films. The film is a dark comedy that is also planned to be released on a digital platform.
