The alleged suicide of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president, Mahant Narendra Giri, has snowballed into major controversy as a large number of religious bodies and seers have questioned the nature of his death. While in his 14-page suicide note the Mahant had directly held three persons — his disciple Anand Giri, seer Adya Tiwari and his son Sandeep Tiwari — responsible for mental torture and harassment, the incident is also being connected with land and other property dispute in Prayagraj.
The state government has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to look into all aspects of the case. However, Ayodhya, Prayagraj Sants and political parties have demanded a Judicial/CBI investigation in the case. A PIL in Allahabad High Court has also been filed seeking CBI investigation.
Mystery also shrouds the Mahant’s suicide note in which the seer had written that he was committing suicide because a message has come from Haridwar that Anand Tiwari has been preparing his (Narendra Giri’s) morphed picture to show the seer in an objectionable position.
“It is better to die than to live in ignominy”. The Mahant had written this sentence twice in the suicide note. The other part of the suicide note is about will and responsibility being entrusted to other seers of the Mutt for the upkeep of Hanuman Mandir and other religious trusts. ADG (law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that on the basis of the aforementioned suicide note, Anand Giri, who was arrested in Haridwar, has been brought to Prayagraj for the probe.
