More than 30 students test positive for COVID at a Karnataka school

A total of 31 students have tested positive in a Galibeedu Village school of Kodagu district. For the past few days, several students were suffering from cold and fever. All 270 students of the Navodaya school underwent a COVID test and 21 students tested positive on Wednesday and 10 tested positive for COVID today. The school has been sealed and all the students have been quarantined on the school premises.

District Health Officer Dr Venkatesh said, “COVID test has been conducted on all students including 40 school staff, a few more results are yet to come. All students will be kept in quarantine and monitored for the next 7 days.”

According to NDTV, “One staff member has also tested positive and is symptomatic. All of them are being treated at the District Hospital.”Pankajashan, the Principal of the school, told NDTV that none of the students is critical. “Their condition is improving; there is nothing to worry about. The entire campus has been sanitised and other precautionary measures are being taken. The interaction between students and teachers is going on though it has affected the smooth functioning of the school,” he said.

The District Collector, District Health Officer, and other officials visited the school today. Appropriate measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the students and prevent further infection. The outbreak was detected when some students developed a fever. Most of the students who tested COVID-19 positive are asymptomatic. Other students have been asked to isolate for seven days.

“The District Health Officer on Thursday and asked parents not to panic,” reported India Today. School authorities told government health officials that the cases were confirmed after Class 10 students were tested for COVID-19. The state government had reopened in-person classes for classes 9 and 10 in all its districts after the daily COVID-19 case tally dipped in recent weeks.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya was among the schools that reopened on September 20. “Within five days of reopening, two students reported fever. When they were tested, coronavirus [infection] was confirmed,” a health department official was quoted saying in a report in The Hindustan Times. After that case, all Class 10 students were isolated and tested. Classes reopened after their tests were negative. A little over a month after that episode, two more students showed symptoms of Covid-19 and later tested positive, HT reported.
