Aryan Khan drug case recoils on NCB; becomes a messy Centre Vs State war

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) will probe charges of bribery against Sameer Wankhede, the zonal officer investigating the Aryan Khan drugs case, according to news reports on Monday. At the moment, the agency has declined to comment on whether Wankhede will continue to probe the cruise ship case as the inquiry against him goes forward.

Meanwhile, a special court in Mumbai on Monday said it cannot pass a blanket order barring courts from taking cognizance of an affidavit of an independent witness in the drugs-on-cruise episode, in which he has levelled allegations of an extortion attempt by Wankhede and others on actor Shah Rukh Khan for the release of Aryan in the case.

The NCB and Wankhede had earlier in the day filed two separate affidavits before the special court against the allegations of extortion attempt levelled against them.

Prabhakhar Sail, a witness of the NCB, had alleged he was forced to sign some blank papers and that he heard private detective KP Gosavi negotiating a deal to hush up the case for Rs 18 crore, out of which Rs 8 crore was supposed to be paid to Wankhede.

Sail has issued a notarised statement in his regard and said that the NCB may kill him. Gosavi is already missing. Wankhede has filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police alleging that attempts were being made to frame him in a false (bribery) case.

Maharashtra’s ruling Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had demanded an inquiry into Sail’s allegations saying attempts are on to defame the state government.
