Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar laid to rest at Kanteerava Studios

Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar was laid to rest with full state honours at the Kanteerava Studios in Bengaluru. The 46-year-old actor died on Friday after suffering a cardiac arrest. His family members and members of the film fraternity were present at the Kanteerava Studios.

The rituals were conducted by Vinay Rajkumar, the son of Puneeth’s brother Raghavendra Rajkumar.

People had gathered on terraces of the buildings around the Kanteerava Studios. Some of them even climbed trees it to catch a glimpse of the actor, according to ANI.

The family of the actor and the Karnataka government had plans to perform the final rites on Saturday. However, due to the increasing crowd of fans, the rituals were postponed to Sunday.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Saturday that after discussing with Rajkumar’s elder brothers Shivarajkumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar and other family members, it was decided to conduct the last rites on Sunday.

“Puneeth’s daughter has reached Delhi and is travelling to Bengaluru and may reach the city by about 6 pm. Secondly, there is lot of crowd here (Kanteerava Stadium) and many people wish to see him for one last time, also after 6pm when it will be dark it will be difficult to perform last rites there (Kanteerava studio),” the chief minister said.

“So we have made an opportunity for more people to pay their last respects till tomorrow morning. I appeal to his (Puneeth’s) fans to pay their last respects with patience and by maintaining peace, as there is time till tomorrow morning,” he said.

Chief Minister Bommai, Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah, former chief minister BS Yediyurappa, state Congress chief DK Shivakumar and others were present during the funeral.

The chief minister paid his last respects to Puneeth at the Kanteerava Studios.

On Saturday, Puneeth’s body, wrapped in Tricolour was kept at the Kanteerava Stadium for fans and well-wishers to pay tributes. Thousands of fans, actors and politicians reached Kanteerava Stadium during the day to pay their last respects to the actor.

Following the footsteps of his legendary father and matinee idol Dr Rajkumar, the family has donated the actor’s eyes.
