COP26: Communities battle climate change as leaders mouth homilies

The 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference also referred to as COP26 is set to begin in the Scottish city of Glasgow, in the United Kingdom on Sunday. The 13-day conference will have many major world leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending it, but China’s Xi Jinping will make virtual participation.

Much is expected from the conference towards mitigating climate change and the consequent global warming, but hopes could meet hurdles in the form of a clash between the developed nations and the developing, over who should contribute towards checking the cataclysmic degradation of the world air and water, and how much.

Official delegations from over 160 countries are participating in the conference, besides NGOs working on mitigation strategies, as well as activists.
