Connecting the dots: BSY questions 'Modi wave', 16 days later I-T raids his former PA

The recent incident of Income Tax raid on Yediyurappa’s personal assistant A Umesh, who was employed in the Chief Minister’s Office till recently has only added fuel to the fiery debate that all is not well between the Lingayat strongman and the BJP high command.

On October 7 2021, Income-Tax officials conducted raids on 47 locations in Karnataka and other states. The raids are said to relate to contracts awarded for irrigation projects in the state. Umesh’s residence was among the locations raided. It is said that Umesh was the go-to man to getting any work done in the irrigation department during Yediyurappa’s tenure.

The buzz in the political circles is that the I-T raid is a message to Yediyurappa to keep him in check.

On July 26 2021, Yediyurappa resigned from his post and since then it has been a rough ride for the powerful Lingayat leader in the BJP.

It has been more than 70 days since veteran Karnataka BJP leader stepped down as the Chief Minister and yet there is no real clarity on what his role in the party is.
